Rickshaw pullers in Bhubaneswar,Odisha will soon be riding a “Soleckshaw”. Soleckshaws are solar powered rickshaws capable of driving upto a speed of 35 Km per hour.
Soleckshaws are designed and promoted by council of scientific & industrial research ( CSIR). The state government of Odisha is exploring the feasibility of promoting solar fuelled rickshaws in Bhubaneswar.The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation ( BMC) has invited CSIR recognised dealer HBL Power system Ltd and its Strategic partner Prabhadeep Industries Ltd to show a demonstration of the vehicle .Solar powered Tricyles are already very popular in Delhi and Chandigarh and some other cities.
The Soleckshaw driven by solar powered battery can carry a load of 250 kg and can also be charged by electricity. When the battery back up goes out, the driver can use the pedal. It is useful for commuting small to medium distance. Apart from ferrying passengers, the soleckshaw can be used to transport goods and garbage.The price of such a solar powered tricyle is INR 70,000.
